Farm Projects is pleased to present Eden, a solo exhibition of autobiographical landscape paintings by Abraham Storer.
Storer’s paintings suggest that something significant has occurred within the scene yet remains just beyond the viewer’s perception. In his latest body of work, he contends with the significance of Wellfleet as a site of memory and yearning. The paintings depict his immediate surroundings - objects in his yard, nearby scenic views, particular qualities of light and weather - but resonate with intangible feelings and experiences cultivated through a life-long relationship with the place.
Storer was born in Wellfleet, left at age five, and returned three years ago to live on the land of his origin - located off Eden Lane. Storer leans into the Biblical idea of Eden as a metaphor for thinking about his relationship to Wellfleet as a place of idyllic childhood memories - yet also a place of loss, and like any place, a site of dysfunction and ruin. Storer’s paintings navigate Wellfleet’s beauty and banality: they strive for honesty and embody a yearning for restoration, beauty, and perfection.
