PAMELA J WALLACE

Pamela J Wallace grew up just outside of Boston, Mass, in the same house her father grew up in with a basement filled with generations of unknown objects. Summers were spent with her great grandparents in Chatham, Mass, running through the cranberry bogs and salt marshes of Cape Cod. Pamela earned her BA in sculpture from Bard College in 1987 and her MFA in sculpture and blacksmithing from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Illinois in 1998. Between college and grad school she lived in Brooklyn, making her sculptures and working at various jobs (Industrial Plastics on Canal Street, carpentry, house painting, waitressing…), and, of course, visiting Cape Cod as often as possible. After graduate school she moved to the Hudson Valley to continue her art practice, earning a living as an adjunct instructor, teaching drawing, sculpture, and metalworking at various colleges and universities. For 10 years she was represented by the John Davis Gallery in Hudson NY. Recent exhibitions include: Hudson Hall in Hudson NY; TurnPark Art Space in West Stockbridge Mass; Opus 40 Sculpture Park in Saugerties NY; the Mercer Museum in Doylestown PA; Lichtundfire gallery in NYC; among others. She has been awarded several artist grants, and been a visiting artist/speaker at various colleges and universities. She considers her art practice a full time endeavor, but recognizes that she also needs to earn a living, so for the past 13 years she has taught art classes for the Bard College Bard Prison Initiative Program.
