“Tensile Force” is a new exhibition of collaborative work by artists Adrienne Shishko and Suzanne Moseley.

Featuring mixed media sculptures and wall hangings composed of found objects and repurposed materials, the exhibition examines the detritus of our “throw away” culture’s impulsive consumerism and its impact on our coastal shores. The artists employ a range of techniques borrowed and adopted from their distinct artistic backgrounds to work into and intertwine beach debris, cast-off clothing, and home decor fabrics with the recycled packaging that supports these hollow purchases. By Integrating and weaving human made and natural materials together the work points to the tensile force between the two and references the Anthropocene Epoch. The work is intended to draw the viewer in with its color and texture, and then to engage them in a discovery of the objects woven in the piece along with an introduce them to the concept. Ultimately, the hope is for the viewer to be inspired to reflect on their own purchasing and discarding habits and their role in climate change.

The work will be shown at Farm Projects Gallery in Wellfleet, MA in the Summer of 2024.  Leading up to the show, Suzanne and Adrienne attended a week long residency with the gallery in April 2023.  During that time they visited with Laura Ludwig at the The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown to sort through beach debris that had been gathered along Cape Cod’s coastline as inspiration and as materials to be used in this new body of work. Next the artists will be popping up on the grounds of Farm Projects gallery on Main Street in Wellfleet to create art in public as a means of engaging viewers with how repurposing cast off objects & beach debris can transform mindless consumerism and non-degradable waste into something new and sacred. A participation based component for the public as well as an Artist Talk will be available as part of this pre-programming. The goal is to leverage relevant locations and their constituencies to educate the public with our messaging by engaging them with the art in process.
