Fuller paints and draws on paper and canvas. Regardless of materials she considers this  body of work drawings because of the intimacy  of subject and her hand being omnipresent. The drawings reflect what Fuller thinks about:  family dynamics, conversations, the dichotomy of strength and tenderness. Seeking balance amid uncertainty.  Her work is rooted in abstract expressionism using simple forms, sensitive lines layer of color and vague space.

Through these formal marks, Fuller is working out her personal narratives, tender moments, high anxieties and shifting realities. “The inaccessible nature of working in an abstract way, letting the materials be part of the decision appeals to me. The sturdiness and drama of charcoal tells one story, the delicate lines from a 9H pencil, oils, so buttery and rich...tell others.” Says Fuller.  Working this way allows the materials she uses to decide and inform each mark.

The work in Just One More Bite is primarily a new body of work. In January of 2020, Fuller was diagnosed with a rare cancer which began a two year journey at the Dana Farber Institute. This work is rooted in that which sustained her during a time of deep uncertainty.

Fuller, the second oldest of a family of eight children was born in Indiana and has strong ties to Washington DC, Maryland and New York, but is most of all a Cape Codder. Fuller raised her children here and loves the environment and historic and contemporary community of serious artists here. Drawing and painting remain the focus of her art practice along with a strong commitment to curatorial projects.

Betty Carroll Fuller received a BA from the University of Maryland, School of Art and Architecture, College Park, MD. She studied with Joan Snyder in a master painting class in Truro. She was a professor in the Arts and Communications Department at Cape Cod Community College teaching Painting, Drawing and Visual Fundamentals and is the former Director and Curator of the Higgins Art Gallery at Cape Cod Community College.
